Today we present you the photographer Mate Moro. Currently studying at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (Budapest), he worked with several magazines like WAD or The Room for some editorial projects. We really like the graphical side of his photographic style so we invite you to read this interview.

Hello Mate, how are you ?
Fine, thanks. I’m wondering our next project, as always and preparing for the summer holiday finally.

Can you introduce yourself ?  Tell us more about you.
I’m 23 years old and totally obsessed by my work, trying to live with constant creativity, share ideas with my friends and produce together. Currently I’m a student at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in the Master Class of photography. I spent a semester at ZHDK in Zürich this year.

What were your first memories of photography ?
When did you start taking photos ?

6 or 7 years ago. I got a camera from my parents. I started to make pictures about flowers and graffiti.

Your work focuses on studio and portrait photography. What’s your interest about this kind of photography ?
It’s true, for two years I’ve been focusing on the creative field of the applied photography especially in the studio atmosphere. We always work as a small creative team with Aron Filkey, graphic designer, and Nora Gyenge, design manager. Our main goal is to figure out fresh and unique ideas in the field of fashion, portrait and fine art photography. Using the never-ending facilities given by this magical atmosphere.

You’re an Art Director too. How do you process in your work ?
When we get a request for various kinds of works firstly I try to imagine the basis of the concept. After this we organize brainstormings, share sketches and ideas with Nora and Aron and build up the whole creative concept and visual world together. We prefer to plan every details of the shooting in advance, actually this kind of concept sessions influences the whole story and makes the working process fast and conscious.

What’s your interests of working on Still Life projects ?
The root of our still life pictures is one of the graphic projects of Aron. More than a year ago we started experience with the grotesque nature of different kind of objects. Since then we have been keen on using this solution in our projects.

Are you specifically influenced by fashion ?
I love the fashion works but it is not the only one which influence me. I often deal with fine art projects. Few months ago we became member of X6 Gallery with Aron.

What inspires and influences you ?
For me the biggest inspirations are the assignments from magazines and brands, and of course the challenge of making new and outstanding stuff. Quite big inspiration to collaborate with these two guys. We always learn something from each other.

Is there any photographer or artist you appreciate a lot ?
Yes, sure. First of all I quite like Guy Bourdin. I love the approach of Viviane Sassen, Marton Perlaki and Anouk Kruithof. Beside these, my favourite groups are 5fruits and Etudes Studio, I think they are really amazing and fresh.

Which book is on your bedside table ?
My sketchbook. :)

The last word…
Happy and more than few.
